An Author interview with Anil Kallagunta, Author of "A Journey with 2 Angels".
1. When did you first realize that you want to be a writer ?
Ans-
I have a habit of penning down any incident that makes me feel bad and tearing that paper. This would relieve my stress. When I am left out without any options in life, lost money in business, lost job and lost confidence, I remembered I got best article award during college days. So felt like writing a story will relieve my pain and started this book ‘A Journey With 2 Angels’ in 2017.Most of the situation comic scenes in book happened in my college days, but added a bit of fiction in imagining the story.
2. How long does it take you to write a book?
Ans-
I have started my book in 2017 and wrote 400 pages in word document. It took 3 years to complete the book.
3. What comes first, the plot or characters?
Ans-
I choose my subject first and do research on characters and characterization. Once after understanding the plot completely I write without keeping any boundaries in mind. In a drama, where drama starts logic ends. And I apply the same for my characters too to make a commercial story which everyone will like. After writing the entire book, I start working on any missing logical points. I wrote around 400 word document pages for my book initially. And finally drill down it too 200 pages for novel. When kept boundaries in mind, it doesn’t allow to write the content with free hand. So, my ideas come up during the journey of writing but the plot remains same. So Plot first and then building characters happens for me.
4. Does your family support you ?
Ans-
Haha, thats a difficult question. I want to be a Director in movies. I worked as assistant director for 2 movies in telugu film industry. Coming to family support, they dint know the fact that i am into movies along with my software profession. Even about the Novel, i informed them a month before the release. so its difficult to answer this question. Hope they will support me.
5. How do you develop your plot and characters?
Ans-
Any good story needs to set empathy for protagonist that drives him/her through the story to reach the final goal. Characterization is important along with what dialogue they speak. Analysing the plot points which can move the story into core part of the subject.
6. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
Ans-
I am baised towards 'Delivering what the readers need'. Thats the best funda to make a successful name in this era.
7. How do you come up with the titles to your books?
Ans-
For my book, i did not have this confusion actually, i had this name in my mind before starting the book. But in general, i would love to search for sanskrit word, where i can find meaning for the entire story. For example, my next title is 'Vrindha' A story that amends between a character Vrindha during Sree Maha Vishnu’s Incarnation and the present generation woman Vrindha who avenges for her husband’s death. Its a thriller. So i had to go through many names in history and find a name so that the character deserves it. And i chose it as my next title. The name has some story related to histroy and looked powerful.
8. Which was the hardest part of your book to write?
Ans-
Creating sitiations when both female leads meet male lead in hyderabad. That was toughest part for me.
9. Describe your writing Process.
Ans-
Never mind if you have any idea or not, take a book and write down at least a line for an hour daily. That’s how writing process happens for everyone and its same for me too. If you want to write, you can’t take breaks. It’s a daily process that shouldn’t be stopped.
10. How do you handle writer’s block?
Ans-
Give it time, discuss with people, hear their stories regularly, something might stuck your mind during any of those wanted/unwanted talks.
11. How many hours a day do you write?
Ans-
As software employee, I don’t get time during daytime to write anything. I start writing at 11pm, sitting in balcony in fresh air and will continue till 3am or 4am. But that’s the perfect time to write anything.
12. Do you have any suggestions to help a budding writer for becoming a better writer? If so, what are they?
Ans-
Beginning is always the Toughest. once you start it, just keep writing. Don’t count on pages and time. I have started my book in 2017 and wrote 400 pages in word document. It took 3 years to complete but never stop writing.
Thankyou!
