Author Interview!!

Author Interview with SriKarthik Vasudevan, author of the book "Myself - A fiction story"

Here are some questions :

1. When did you first realize that you want to be a writer?

Ans- I had the aspiration to do something that would give me the recognition / an identity. So, I chose to be a writer as I had the experience of co-writing some articles during my schooldays.

2. How long does it take you to write a book?

Ans- This is my first book. 1st half of the book was written during my school days 14 years ago. When I decided to write, I thought to restart working on this content first. 2nd half of the books was completed in 1 day.

3. What comes first, the plot or characters?

Ans- For me, its plot. It is the foundation upon which characters are built.

4. Does your family support you?

Ans- My family is always supportive of whatever I do. In this instance, I didn't inform them until the book is out for sale, as I wanted to keep it a big surprise for my kid's first birthday.

5. How do you develop your plot and characters?

Ans- I develop the one-line story first and once I am convinced with that one-line, I start developing plots. I try to keep characters as less and impactful as impossible relevant to plots.

6. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Ans- I was trying to be more original in this book and I faced some critiques highlighting it as a negative point. I am working on this in my next book and try to fill the gap of what readers want.

7. How do you come up with the titles to your books?

Ans- I decide the titles mostly based on the intention of the protagonist.

8. Which was the hardest part of your book to write?

Ans- I didn't fell any hardest part. I enjoyed the whole thing.

9. Describe your writing space.

Ans- I prefer writing late nights where there are zero possibilities of distractions. Everyone asleep, no mobile notifications, and complete silence.

10. How do you handle writer’s block?

Ans- I don't keep deadlines or force myself to write. I don't stress the plot or the characters that make me feel depressed or mentally blocked from developing further.

11. How many hours a day do you write?

Ans- I don't have the habit of writing every day. Once I am convinced with a storyline I sit to develop the plot when I am sure that there are zero distractions.

12. Do you have any suggestions to help a budding writer for becoming a better writer? If so, what are they?

Ans- In my opinion, write what satisfies you. Don't keep reviews and ratings as a measure of the quality of your content. Reviewers may vary, from beginner to experts. If beginners enjoy your book, experts don't like most of the times. If experts enjoy the book, beginners will find it difficult. There will be ups and downs. So don't listen to critiques in your initial days. Eventually, you will find a better set of audience for your work, if you keep focusing on your content.

Thanks
